Anthony Dion Richards: My Journey in Science, Service, and Humanity
Autobiography of Anthony Dion Richards
Introduction
I am Anthony Dion Richards, a proud native of the Bahamas and a passionate Chemical Engineer, Lecturer,
Philanthropist, Husband, and Father. This is the story of my life, from my early years as a
curious child on the sun-soaked islands of New Providence to my career as an academic and
engineer in the bustling metropolises of the United Kingdom and the United States. My
journey has been marked by both triumphs and challenges, but through it all, I have remained
steadfast in my commitment to learning, growth, and service to others.
Chapter 1: Early Life and Foundations
I was born on July 27, 1970, as the only child of my parents in the Bahamas, New Providence
Area. Growing up in a small but close-knit family, I was showered with love, attention, and
values that shaped my character. My parents instilled in me the importance of education,
hard work, and integrity. My father was a towering figure in my life, a man of principle who
always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Tragically, I lost him during my high school
years—a loss that struck me deeply. His passing marked a turning point in my life, and I
knew that I had to carry on his legacy through my achievements.
Chapter 2: Educational Journey and Professional Beginnings
From a young age, I was captivated by science and its ability to solve problems. After
completing my high school education in the Bahamas, I set my sights on the United Kingdom to
pursue my dream of becoming a Chemical Engineer. In 1993, I earned my Bachelor of Science
degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Liverpool, an experience that laid the
foundation for my career. The University’s rich academic environment, coupled with hands-on
learning opportunities, prepared me for the challenges of the engineering world.
Not stopping there, I went on to obtain my Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 1995
from the same prestigious institution. My time at Liverpool not only deepened my technical
knowledge but also ignited a passion for research and teaching. I found great satisfaction
in exploring innovative solutions to industrial problems and sharing that knowledge with
others. Teaching, I soon realized, was one of my callings.
Chapter 3: Love, Loss, and a New Beginning
During my time as a lecturer at the University of Liverpool, I met Elizabeth, the love of my
life. Our connection was immediate, and I knew that she was the one I wanted to share my
life with. We married, and in 2010, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Bella, into the
world. Becoming a father was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life, and our
small family was my pride and joy.
However, life dealt me another blow when Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite
our best efforts and the support of family and friends, we lost her in 2014. Devastated, I
relocated to the United States with Bella to start anew and focus on giving her the best
life possible.
Chapter 4: A Career in Engineering and Research
With a fresh start in the United States, I joined Sinopec Oil Corporation as a Senior
Chemical Engineer. My role involved leading research and development projects, focusing on
improving industrial processes and optimizing energy efficiency. Over the years, I have
worked on numerous high-profile projects, and in 2018, I was honored with the ENOC
Certificate of Appreciation for achieving 10 million safe man-hours at Sinopec.
One of my greatest passions in life is research, and this has led me to take on the role of
a Senior Research Advocate. In this capacity, I consult with universities, private
companies, and research organizations to promote scientific innovation. I am especially
committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions and other research that can benefit
humanity. Through my work, I have had the opportunity to advocate for causes that go beyond
the laboratory, pushing for a better, cleaner future for all.
Chapter 5: Philanthropy and Humanitarian Efforts
Throughout my life, I have believed that true success comes not just from personal
achievements but from how we give back to others. My philanthropic work began shortly after
Elizabeth's passing, when I realized how important it is to serve those in need. Since then,
I have traveled to various parts of the world, working with organizations that promote clean
water, education, and healthcare access in underprivileged communities.
One of my proudest moments came in 2018 when I received the Lifetime Achievement Award from
the Office of the United States President for my contributions to humanitarian causes. While
I have earned numerous accolades for my work in engineering, this recognition stands out as
a testament to my commitment to bettering the lives of others.
Chapter 6: Looking Forward
Today, I continue my work as a Chemical Engineer and Research Advocate, and I remain
committed to mentoring the next generation of engineers. My daughter Bella is now thriving,
and she continues to inspire me every day. As I look back on my journey, I am reminded that
life is about more than just individual success—it is about using our talents and abilities
to make a positive impact on the world around us.
Through the highs and lows, I have learned that persistence, passion, and a dedication to
growth are the keys to overcoming life’s challenges. Whether I am working in the lab,
mentoring a student, or supporting a community in need, I strive to live by these values
every day.
My journey is far from over, and I remain eager to see where the next chapter takes me.
Conclusion
I hope my story inspires others to pursue their dreams, remain resilient in the face of
adversity, and never lose sight of the importance of service to humanity. Through hard work,
love, and the pursuit of knowledge, we can all make a difference.
